Marines give President Select Obama an icy reception in Hawaii

I guess Barack Obama might have gotten tired of hanging around his rented thirty million dollar beach house in Hawaii, so that could explain why he decided to visit the Marines at a base in Hawaii. For a guy that branded the rich as a bunch of selfish, heartless money grubbing scrooges during his campaign, he sure doesn't mind living like them now that the election is over. With times the way they are right now, what image does that give to people losing their jobs? Anyways enough about that. During the campaign, Obama didn't deem the troops in Iraq worthy of his attention when McCain asked him to visit Iraq to see the progress on the ground. Now all of sudden the American Idol select wants to get a photo op with the troops in the same state that he is vacationing in,how nice. The media of course licked it up like gravy on a plate, but some people including the marines saw through Obama like transparent tape. When the "American Idol" select elect Obama stopped by to visit the troops on Christmas day, they barely paid attention to him. This paragraph from the ABC news says it all.

"As Obama entered the room, it was absent of the regular fanfare of cheering and clapping. The diners were polite, staying seated at their respective tables and waited for the president-elect to come to them to stand up".

Even with George Bush being a huge disappointment and an approval rating hovering around 30%, He has always been popular among the troops and has earned their respect. This is the statement from the New York Times last year reporting on Bush's visit to Iraq.

"Mr. Bush told a gathering of American troops, who responded with a rousing cheer. “

I can understand why the troops are not so hot on Obama like the rest of the Obamatrons in America and in the media. It was Obama that accused the troops of "air raiding villages and killing civilians". Wow, that's something for the troops to look up to in their "Commander in Chef" isn't it? Also why would the troops support a President that wants to prevent them from being the most equipped fighting force in the world.

Obama said on the campaign trail that he wanted to earn the respect of the military. Frankly I can't see why they would or should give Obama any respect at all. Maybe he will order the soldiers to "change" their views of him. I have an idea that may help Mr. Obama. Maybe he can get that guy he was "friendly" with while growing up in Chicago to have a talk with the troops. It shouldn't matter that his "associate" was apart of a domestic terrorist organization that bombed the nerve center of the military being the"Pentagon" right?

Military chain of command calls for, and demands, respect no matter what the personal feelings are of the military members. When that is gone, so is the proper functioning of the military.

Crow all you want, but this type of behavior can lead to a non-functional military.

And if that's what you want so that you can continue your hatred towards Obama, so be it. Just make it clear.

Well I don't blame them. He's a jerk and a narcissistic opportunistic politician. Black folks who think he's gonna be better than his white contemporaries are in for a rude awakening. Barrack is just as detached from ordinary Americans as any other Elitist in Washington D.C. They have no idea who he is all the more reason to not get too attached to him!

Darkstar, does the term "Respect has to be earned not given" ring a bell? The only thing the troops have to do is follow the superior's orders.

Darkstar "Crow all you want, but this type of behavior can lead to a non-functional military."

Crowing Darkstar?lol I'm not crowing at all, I'm just stating an obvious fact. Barack Hussein Obama does not have the respect of the troops.

Darkstar "And if that's what you want so that you can continue your hatred towards Obama, so be it. Just make it clear."

Hate is such a strong word Darkstar, don't you agree? I dislike Obama greatly but I don't "hate" him. If I hated Obama, I wonder could I be charged with a "hate" crime? I'm just joking. I don't like his background, ideology and associates, other then that he's probably a decent.

They are thinking it chilerkle. Obama grew up attending private schools and his daughter grew up attending private schools. Obama used blacks to get where he is at. Did you notice during the campaign he never mentioned once anything he would do to "help the black community"? The slums are still going to be the slums and all the internal problems aren't going to change one inch. I guarantee you chilerkle in four years if you were to ask a black Obamatron that lives in the worst ghetto in America what Obama did for them, they won't be able to say directly. They will say something stupid like "he gave blacks HOPE".

Barrack is just as detached from ordinary Americans as any other Elitist in Washington D.C. They have no idea who he is all the more reason to not get too attached to him! The liberal elites have been playing non elite blacks for suckers for a very long time now. The only time a liberal elite regardless of race will live their gated communities to associate with blacks is in an election year. Most blacks will never ever ever figure that out.

DarkStar, may I point out that the service men and women WERE respectful? They stood when the President-elect approached each table. There is no indication that anyone said or did anything disrespectful. They just didn't give him a standing ovation like President Bush generally receives.

It is true, a lot of Blacks know they were duped but are powerless to change. It is so sad, they are like the Arabs in Palestine hating Israel, yet the Jews are the ones feeding them. they are afraid and misguided. Black Americans really dont read as a whole, just do as they are told or given. Free is not free. If it had not been for white/Black men fighting the Germans and Japanese in ww2 we would be speaking German or Japanese. Now Arabic is trying to bully us religiously. Blacks are the people of least resistance. A lot of Blacks just Make it happen, but too many watch it happen and say afterwards "What happened!

Does the fact that subordinates salute all superior officers tell you that subordinates must show respect to superiors by saluting? And does the fact that superiors must return the salute, a sign of respect, to subordinates, tell you anything about respect and the military?

It's not showing "respect", it's merely follow military protocol. When the troops cheer for their Commander in Chief, that is something they do as individuals, it can't be ordered. The military code can order a person to salute their commanding officer and follow his or her orders. It doesn't meant that the officer has to have any respect for that person as a human being, they are merely following orders.

Actually a parallel can be drawn. Arafat robbed Palestinians blind while claiming to be fighting on their behalf. Many black churches stand in front of the pulpits and blame others for their congregation's problems then proceed to steal from the church to fund their lifestyle. Jeremiah Wright didn't steal money from Trinity. He preached to his dumb congregation about America being "KK OF A"yet Wright's new house isn't among the "brothers" or "sisters" that he was suppose to be "down" with. Oh no no no, his million dollar house is in a "gate community" among the very same "rich white people" that he attacked in his sermons to the delight of his clueless congregation. Wright may be mental flake, but the guy isn't stupid. There are a lot of black pastors just like Wright that are doing the same thing every Sunday in churches across America.

Tyrone I agree. Many churches get rich off of hate and lies from the pulpit.
Wright was a Muslims and left Howard and started his cult because Louis was HNIC in Islam. It has paid well, and as you say he lives well in the gated rich man's community while laughing and say how STUPID Americans are. American Blacks are a sad bunch, because they just listen to what Rev so and so says without reading for themselves as the Bible says. Quran said dont ask questions.. Even the religious schools teach marxism and that the Bible is a book of tales, but they can use it to get over to keep control of the masses. Jesus is used as a symbol. Reverand is one of God's title and so none of them should be called Rev. It is blasphemy.
The Essenes, an apostate sect of Christians is who they copied from.

Israel has a right to fight back after months of Qassam rockets fired. I would kick butt so hard they would see Allah real fast and get 72 big breasted white women as Allah promised. No black men need apply because they dont get none.

It's a protocol based on respecting your superior's position and respecting the position of your subordinates.

First link

This practice gradually became a way of showing respect and, in early American history, sometimes involved removing the hat. By 1820, the motion was modified to touching the hat, and since then it has become the Hand Salute used today.

Second link

A salute (also called obeisance) is a gesture (often hand gesture) or other action used to display respect. Salutes are primarily associated with armed forces, but other organizations also use salutes.

You can find more if you want to do so.

The definition of "respect" is "an attitude of admiration or esteem". For a person to respect someone else, that person is displaying an emotion. An emotion can't be ordered. If a person orders me to "show respect" to a person I don't like. Does that mean I have to "like or be personal accepting" of that person Darkstar? If I was in the military, and I had to salute Obama. Would I personally like want to do it? Of course I wouldn't, but it is protocol for soldiers to salute their "commander in chief". As a soldier I would be bound to follow rules and regulations even if I disagree with them. My saluting Obama as a soldier would have nothing to do with respect from me personally. Do you now see the difference darkstar?

CB; says;"Wow, that's something for the troops to look up to in their "Commander in Chef" isn't it? Also why would the troops support a President that wants to prevent them from being the most equipped fighting force in the world."

First off, at the present, Barak Obama is "NOT" the Commander in Chief of the armed forces. I believe the soldiers knew, and understand that concept...duhhh!

I think you're reading to much into this article Tyrone. Respect and obedience are requirements of military personnel. I'm sure there are members of the military who dislike and/or disapprove of George Bush. But showing it is another thing. Lets just think about it for a moment.

Let's say a company of enlisted men are visited by the President (aka Commander in Chief) and the enlisted men simply stand, salute and then return to what they were doing. The commanding officers would have hell to pay. And as those of you who were in the military know, the "sh#t" rolls downhill. Every man and woman in that company would regret the moment.

As "Commander in Chief" Bush will receive the salutes, as well as the applause and cheers simply because he is the "Commander in Chief".

As Darkstar says, if you're wanting the military to dislike Obama just say it.

Bush is far from my ideal President but I just can't hate him because I thought a lot of the attacks on his character were uncalled for. I disagreed with his amnesty for illegals and I was disgusted with his weakness in dealing with his political enemies but I can't kick him while he's down. He looks a little worn out from all those attacks on his character. He looks like he aged twenty years I guess it's taken a toll on his spirit! Those who attacked him unjustly should be ashamed of themselves! I respect you CB and I feel disappointed in bush but I find the rabid haters of Bush to be really nasty and hateful. I feel no need to give Obama any slack unless people attack him without just cause! I feel CB you're justified in your disgust with Bush because your beef with him is legitimate and not based on irrational conspiracy theories with no basis in truth!

Chilerkle "! I feel CB you're justified in your disgust with Bush because your beef with him is legitimate and not based on irrational conspiracy theories with no basis in truth!"

If Bush doesn't pardon the two border agents between now and the time he leaves office, my attacks on Bush are going to get pretty personal Chilerkle. I'm going to hold out hope that he will do the right thing, but time is running out. If he is concerned about his legacy, he better realize that conservatives can trash his legacy just as equally if not more then liberals have already done.

The article doesn't pose a fair comparison between the President and the President-elect. President-elect Obama entered a chow hall (over a weekend) and protocol states that you are NOT to rise when a high-ranking official enters a dining area, while President Bush received a 'rousing cheer' during a speech (even terrible Presidents get cheers during speeches).
