11 year old girl saves a woodpecker, yet her mom now faces a $500 fine and possible jail time for her daughter's actions.
I know, something doesn't sound right with that headline. Tell me again that the federal government isn't drunk with power. In Virginia, an 11 year old girl did a good deed by saving a helpless woodpecker from being eaten by the family cat, yet this is a story of how a good deed didn't go unpunished by the long arm of our benevolent, overpowering federal government.

This case is an example of government gone amuck. In some cases a person can committ a murder and get off due to some dumb technicality, but to fine or jail someone for saving a helpless animal is government stuck on stupidity. Where is PETA or The Civil Liberties Union when you need them?
They will avoid any fines by pleading ignorance of the law. But knowing what these folks know now, the next time the cat will have a meal.
I have seen people get arrested over the most ridiculous things.
Years ago in my area, a man is arrested for not using the proper litter bag in his car. He was using a grocery bag to dispose his litter.
I remember this made national news. A good Samaritan was putting coins in the parking meters and was arrested for obstruction of justice.
So I guess arresting the mother of this girl who rescued a woodpecker excuse would be "intervening with nature".
The saying goes power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. That park services officer needs to be fired for abusing her power. Probably 99% of Americans wouldn't even have known what kind of woodpecker that was and that it was even on the federal endangered birds list. That little girl was right to be pissed off that a power tripping government parasite would harass a citizen and child over something so trivial.

That and for sheer incompetence.
