If your job was saved by Obama, would you jeopardize it by drinking and getting stoned on the job?
This is a story that could only happen in America. Just imagine being able to work for a corporation owned by the U.S Government were you can drink alcoholic beverages and get stoned on your lunch break. Well that is what was happening at the Chrysler’s Jefferson North Assembly Plant in Detroit.. A group of workers were using their lunch break to do everything else other then eat lunch. Obama visited the plant earlier in the year much to the delight of the UAW union members who knew Obama was the one who bailed Chrysler out and save their jobs. I wonder the reason why these jokers were boozing it up and getting stoned was due to the fact that they are members of the UAW? Forget "Better Pizza, Better Ingredients, Pappa Johns", for Chrysler it should be "Government Bailout, UAW, Drunk and stoned workers, Chrysler Motors. At least they did drink American beer.
Isn't this just a great return on the tax payer's dollar or what?

Thanks for re-igniting my desire to oust Obama and other socialists in the Congress and the White House!
I'm not surprised that the Employees who had their jobs saved by the bailouts were acting like dead weight.
There was a similar situation like that years ago where a bunch of Boeing machinists went out on their lunch break and went back to work intoxicated. It could have been worse: they could have been test pilots.
During that time Boeing was going through a recession and had to lay off thousands of machinists. Makes me wonder if Boeing laid off the wrong ones.
Beer drinking during lunch break at the auto factories is as common as costumes on halloween. It's nothing new and it's been going on probably since the the early years of the industry. Marijuana has become just as common among some auto workers.
Attempting to connect the effects of the "bailout" with beer drinking and pot smoking is silly. I've read comments from some damning the entire auto industry. If these same guys were policemen, firemen, politicians, lawyers, garbage men, soldiers, teachers or whatever, they'd probably do the same thing on their lunch breaks.
So, the "kill them all, let God sort em' out" attitude is senseless and baseless. Moreover, if you pay an appropriate amount of attention to the "entire story" you'll hear that it was other Chrysler plant auto workers who put the reporter on to the story.

Why would I ever expect you to understand the difference between right and wrong allen? Fortunately for me, I didn't expect you too.lol
Only you could brush this off as no big deal.

The fact is that the UAW won't fire these clowns, because they are protected in their labor agreement. If there is not suitable punishment for this type of behavior, what's stopping them from doing it again or other employees who work for Chyrsler or even GM from drinking and getting stoned on the job? Since the governement owns Chrysler, the American people are still the main owners of the company. I don't want my tax payer dollars going to support a bunch of people who drink and get stoned allen. It's as simple as that believe it or not. If Chrysler wasn't owned by tax payers, I could care less, I just wouldn't buy their cars.

Dam you are thick in the head allen. Do you remember what happened to former DC Mayor Narion Berry. He was disgraced and thrown out of office for smoking crack. Any policeman, fireman, soldiers or teachers would be fired, imprisoned or discharged if they were caught ON THE JOB drinking and doing drugs allen. You said you are a teacher in Detroit right? Do you drink and do drugs in school? Since you think it's no big deal, why don't you if you don't?

You are the one who brought the kill them all analogy into this. People expect the workers who make their automobiles to have a clear mind when making them. What if one of these workers put a component on backwards or even forgot to put it on due to them being chemically impaired and a person gets into an accident due to the screw up allen. Would it still be no big deal? Think McFly think!!
Sojournerlove "I'm not surprised that the Employees who had their jobs saved by the bailouts were acting like dead weight."
If these jokers worked for a japanese or korean auto maker that is non union and has their plants in right to work states, these clown would have been fired as soon as new broke. I am curious Sojournerlove just to see what the UAW and Chrysler does with these "hard workers".

Something tells me that Chrysler and Boeing must not have random drug testing for their employees. I would be more outraged over Boeing Machinists getting stoned then Chrysler employees getting high, because I can't chose the plan that isn't made by Boeing when I fly a carrier.
Well, the UA workers have been doing this for years upon years; it really is nothing new.
That's why it's silly to tie it to the bailouts.
Really, it should be tied to how strong the unions are; and utterly stupid they act. Check out this story from my backyard.

Unions were extremely necessary back in the day (see Battle of Blair Mountain on Wikipedia, and read about the conditions of the coal miners), but now they're too powerful, entitled, and a bulbous leech on the free market.
Also, P Anthony, I'm a big fan of your dissent on this blog, almost as much as I'm a fan of Alpha Conservative Male, and I just want to know your thoughts as a teacher in Detroit your thoughts on this page. http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/2010/09/27/2010-09-27_president_obama_school_year_must_be_extended_by_month_for_us_students_to_compete.html?r=news
My thoughts are that most teachers, especially in MDOE will be against it.

It's not about me picking on those guys because the company their worked for was bailed out. It's about right and wrong. Like it or not, the United State taxpayer are the owners of Chrysler Motors. Most of us didn't want Chrysler bailed out with tax payer money but it was. So until that money is payed back or close to it, the people who work for Chrysler are employed by US, and as owners we should expect the employees to act the proper way.
CB;"Any policeman, fireman, soldiers or teachers would be fired, imprisoned or discharged if they were CAUGHT ON THE JOB".
CAUGHT on the job! DUUUUHHHH.... for the most part, isn't that the way it works...by getting CAUGHT?? Ask Bill CLinton or one of the closet Gay Republicans...
However, typically it's those on the LOWER RUNG of the ladder that lose the most. There are few exceptions where the big guy actually takes a fall. Nevertheless, this type of behavior has been, and will continue.
CB;"Do you drink and do drugs in school? Since you think it's no big deal, why don't you if you don't?".
No... and no, I don't do drugs. I enjoy a nice scotch and soda every now and then, but I'd never drink on the job. Drinking or being drunk around high school kids (especially in Detroit) is not a good idea, and something I would advise against.
Rob;"Really, it should be tied to how strong the unions are; and utterly stupid they act. Check out this story from my backyard".
The bailout agreement and package is with GM, not J.D. Norman...
J.D. Norman is not your ordinary run of the mill auto industry type. Read This. It might not come from a source of your liking, but everything they point out can be fact checked.
A 50% pay-cut was "PROPOSED." Bad enough as that may be, Norman refused to even put that in writing. Addionally, no promise of ANY JOBS were ever made.
Rob;"but now they're too powerful, entitled, and a bulbous leech on the free market".
After their establishment, the unions had always been "powerful" with a sense of "entitlement." Thats what they've worked and pushed for all these years. And they've always been a "bulbous leech" on the free market.
Most unions demanded, "sick days and sick pay, paid vacations, 5 day 8 hour work weeks, overtime pay, medical insurance for employee's and family, living wages...along with safe working enviroments, no child labor, lunchbreaks, timely payment for work performed, non forced extended working hours.
I was unale to pull up the link you posted Rob. Try it again and I'll take a look at it.
