Does anyone here know what "EIGHT YEARS" of "No Child Left Behind" has wrought? Study after Study after Study after Study after Study after Study has shown and proven that NCLB was first grossly under-funded, and it policies patently unfair and misdirected. Nation wide high school "drop-out" rates have stayed pretty much consistent since 2001. However, here in Detroit I believe we have seen a sharp increase in drop-out rates since NCLB.
The bottom line is NCLB is not working in it's present form. Funny how the right-wingers wont scream and yell at the politicians to secure a better education for "ALL AMERICANS". Right-wingers won't scream and yell about all the money wasted in Iraq and Afghanistan...but it's "socialist fascist indoctrination" for the president to talk to school children and propose health care for all Americans. It kind of makes me wonder, what would have been the right-wing reaction if NCLB was President Obama's idea...hhhmmmm?
The irony behind all of this madness, is that the right-wing has "at least" three and a half years to build up enough hate against the administration before one side or the other explodes.
I think I just threw up in my mouth after hearing those kids sing an Obama Anthem or is it a hymnal.

The reason why should be obvious. Obama is the only president to have such a hardcore radical background. If Obama was god forbid "normal", it wouldn't have been an issue allen.

"Unfair" how exactly allen? What is considered "under-funded"? Also, what does this have to do with Obama and indoctrination allen? Furthermore, has Obama increased funding for NCLB since being sworn in? I can't wait to hear your response. I want to hear who has been "unfairly targeted".

I have a story in my political bookmarks about Detroit. Detroit has had it's problems LONG LONG LONG before NCLB. Quick making lame excuses allen. To me it soundslike you are trying to justify why the kids in Detroit don't apply themselves to pass allen. Are you saying the the kids in the Detroit Public School system can't learn like other kids allen?

Believe it or not allen, I'm not a defender of NCLB. I don't believe in the need for the Department of Education in the first place. NCLB was a federal government intrusive bill that Bush promoted and Ted Kennedy drafted. So I'm not exactly shaking pom poms in it's support.

Democrats are afraid to go ahead with a public option health bill, they are afraid to pass card check, they are afraid to progress with cap and tax. You saw the poll about how people identify being conservative vs liberal by 2 to 1. Republicans didn't have a thing to do with Obama's collasping poll numbers. Obama and Democrats simply OVER REACHED LIKE I SAID THEY WOULD DO. :-)

According to the 2008 election results, there's 59,934,814 (plus the 1.5 million or so who voted third party, or other) who did not vote for President Obama.
The ticked off Americans are those that are, "bitter and cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant." You know the "Americans" I'm talking about... the one's that claim "Barack Obama 'pals' around with terrorists", and claims he's a racist because he sat in Rev. Wrights church for 20 years. The "Americans" that claim his wife "hates" America because it's a "down-right mean" country.
The "Americans" that went out after election day and bought all the guns that they could find, and some of them feel the need to carry their guns to town hall meetings...just because they can?

Your using irrational but humorous logic allen. All the polls show over 50% disapproval for the governent option allen. Obama's support back in February and March was in the high 60% range. You can't spin this allen. It has been widely reported about Obama's lose of support among "INDEPENDENT VOTERS". He is now losing support among DEMOCRAT VOTERS allen. Democrats and Obama wouldn't dare even think about conceding the government option in the health care bill if they thought that only Republicans obsessed it. No excuses Tyrone. The kids not applying themselves is just one part of the problem.
We already know about the problems that exist in the homes of many Black school age children. It's relevant to the problem, it's there, and plays a large part in the failures. So, no need to go into that aspect of the problem.
I've worked for the Detroit Public School system for 29 years. The main problem in the "system" itself is embezzlement, graft, misappropriation, filching, pilfering and purloining just to name a few... I've seen it happen year after year.
This past June newly appointed financial manager, Robert Bobb, was able to uncover 257 "Ghost Employees". (eg. persons receiving paychecks from the school system who were not actually employed with the system)
Needless to say, that's just the tip of the iceberg. Other thefts include (but not limited to);
-$2.1 million per year for health coverage for ineligible dependents
-$1.7 million in sales taxes that the tax-exempt district unnecessarily paid to the city
-thousands of unused books, electronic video and audio systems, building materials, unused office space and office equipment, unused cell phones and 11 motorcycles
-cart loads of laptop computers stolen from the warehouses
I know on thing for certain. This type of theft can only exist if those in charge (eg. administrators) are pulling the strings. If they are not directly pulling the strings themselves, they're turning a blind eye, which makes them just as guilty.

Allen blacks in the 1940s and 1950s were able to read and write at age 3 and 4, because their parents cared and were married. My grands were married, owned their own home and 100 acres of land, paid for and had 16 kids. All kids were by the same parents. some were light skinned and some were dark brown, but that is how it works. Both of them were light skinned, but you genetics. Grandma could read and write and had a college degree. The college was in the church, but they had one. All of the children in the community of all blacks could read and write and had two parents. there was no WELFARE.
The black community had their own stores, burial grounds, swimming pools, hunting grounds and their houses were paid for and they still own them. Those blacks who left lost their lands as they moved to Detroit and NYC. My grand got his 40 acres and a mule. The mule has been dead, but we still have the land. We pay the taXES!

Alan Keyes, whom by the way is BLACK, has run for president at least "FOUR TIMES." I never voted for him ONCE! The vast majority of Blacks have never gave Alan Keyes a second look. But the ignorance you display here will never allow you to stop, and think to ask.....WHY!
Why? Because first off, Keyes ran as a Republican. Blacks haven't voted Republican for more than 50 years. Secondly, Keyes has staunch conservatives views. Most Blacks see "many" conservative views as oppressive and "anti-black." Third, since the 1960's most Blacks have voted Democrat, most of those Democratic candidates being White Democrats! The bottom line is, MOST BLACKS VOTE DEMOCRAT...PERIOD! That's just the way it is. Don't attempt to spin it, explain it, or demonize it.
So a Black man as a symbolic gesture is why you think Barack Obama was elected president? Well Keyes' would have been no more than that either, except people knew "what he stood for"...they just didn't like it!!

I never said that the right treats Obama with kids gloves allen. The lefts "expects the right to do so" because he's black. Expecting and doing are two different things allen.It's liberals who go ballistic when they see it not happening. Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter and other white liberal presidents weren't treated with kids glvoes, so why should Obama be any different?
